Ants on a Log Protein Plate

Celery, nut or seed butter, and raisins cover crunch, protein, and a little sweetness in one classic snack that kids as young as two can help assemble.

Ants on a Log Protein Plate

How to make it

  1. Wash celery stalks and cut into 3- to 4-inch logs.

  2. Fill the groove of each piece with nut or seed butter.

  3. Top with raisins and serve.

Pre-washed celery hearts from any grocery store skip the trimming step entirely. SunButter sunflower seed butter is the go-to if nuts are off the table and has a mild flavor kids accept easily; Teddie natural peanut butter and Justin's almond butter are good options when nuts are fine. Sun-Maid mini snack boxes are handy for portion control and let each kid scatter their own raisins.

Swap raisins for dried cranberries or mini chocolate chips for variety; use cream cheese instead of nut butter for a milder option that works well with younger toddlers; add a few granola clusters on top for extra crunch.
