Overview
Swings & Wings is a 4,800-square-foot indoor play space in Alameda designed and owned by an occupational therapist, which shows in how the space is laid out. The equipment is specifically chosen to deliver proprioceptive and vestibular input — the kind of deep pressure and movement that helps kids regulate, not just burn energy. It's a go-to for neurodiverse families in the East Bay, but it works just as well for any kid who moves hard and needs a purposeful outlet on a rainy Tuesday.

How to Do It
The space is at 2307 Blanding Ave, Suite E, Alameda, CA 94501 — in a commercial strip on the southeast side of the island. Parking is free in the surface lot directly in front of the suite. Getting to Alameda requires crossing one of the tube or bridge connections from Oakland; from 880 South take the Alameda/29th Ave exit, go through the Posey Tube, and Blanding Ave is a short straight shot from there. There's no BART directly to Alameda, but the 51A bus from the Fruitvale BART station crosses into Alameda and stops near Park/Blanding — about a 20-minute ride.
The space opens at 10am on weekdays, 9am on weekends. Drop-in play is the main format — walk in, pay, and stay for the session. Weekday hours run 10am–noon and 1–5pm (split by a cleaning break). Weekend hours are 9am–6pm. The layout divides into distinct zones: a bright front room with large windows, wooden play structure, ball pit, and reading nook; a back room with a full bounce house; and a dedicated quiet/nursing room with low light, a glider, and sensory toys for kids who need to decompress or parents who need a break. There's also an art area with puzzles and chalk.

Tips & Tricks
Weekday mornings are the least crowded sessions — the 10am–noon window on a Monday or Tuesday is as close to a private play session as you'll get without booking one. Weekend afternoons are the busiest; if you're going on a Saturday, arrive at or before 9am.
The quiet room is genuinely useful, not an afterthought. If a younger sibling needs to nurse or a kid gets overstimulated by the bounce house energy, the room functions well. Don't skip it because you don't think you'll need it.
Socks are required for everyone — kids and adults alike. Bring a pair or buy one at the door. The facility is nut-free, so check snacks before you pack them.
Admission is $17.50 for the first child, $14.75 for each additional sibling, and $13.75 for pre-walkers. Up to two companion adults per child are free. EBT cardholders pay $12. Private play sessions (for groups up to 15 people) can be booked for afternoon slots — contact info@swingsandwings.com for next-day or same-day reservations.
The space runs camps and a preschool program called Little Butterflies for kids 18 months to 3 years — if the drop-in works well for your family, those are worth looking into for structured weekly time.
