Rengstorff Park Splash Pad

Mountain View upgraded Rengstorff Park's aquatics facilities significantly with the opening of the new Rengstorff Park Aquatics Center in spring 2025, replacing the old pool complex with a purpose-built recreation pool featuring zero-depth beach entry, an interactive water play structure, a water slide, and shallow lap lanes — plus a separate 25-yard competition lap pool. For families with toddlers and young kids, the recreation pool is the main draw: the zero-depth beach entry means even a walking 18-month-old can wade in safely, and the interactive jets and dumpers are sized for small bodies. Mountain View runs noticeably warmer and sunnier than coastal Peninsula spots, making this the reliable hot-day backup when the coast is fogged in.

How to Do It

The park address is 201 S Rengstorff Ave, Mountain View. From US-101, take the Rengstorff Ave exit and head north about half a mile — the park entrance and parking lot are on the right. There is a free surface lot directly adjacent to the park; it's large enough that parking is rarely a problem, though it fills on peak summer weekends. The Aquatics Center entrance is separate from the main park entrance — look for the new building at 2073 Crisanto Ave (the aquatics center has its own address). Bring your own lock for the locker rooms; lockers are available but you supply the lock. The recreation pool and competition pool are in the same facility but serve different sessions. For family rec swim, you want the recreation pool session specifically. Rengstorff Park itself (the surrounding park, not the pool) has multiple playgrounds including a Barbara Butler-designed wooden playhouse structure with a stage, a Magical Bridge inclusive playground, a skate park, basketball and tennis courts, and large grass fields with BBQ tables — so arriving early to play before the pool opens, or running out the energy on the playgrounds after a swim, extends the day naturally.

Tips & Tricks

The Aquatics Center opened in March 2025 and the recreation pool sessions are the busiest, particularly on weekend afternoons. The Saturday–Sunday rec swim window runs 1:30–6:30pm; arriving at opening (1:30pm) beats the mid-afternoon surge that peaks around 3pm. Weekday rec swim runs 2:30–5pm in summer, which tends to be quieter.

Children under 6 must be accompanied in the water by an adult. The zero-depth beach entry is the right spot for toddlers; the deep end of the recreation pool has a water slide that works for kids roughly 4 and up who are comfortable in deeper water.

Pricing for Mountain View residents is approximately $4 for kids, $5 for adults, $3 for spectators, and $11 for a family day pass — a strong deal. Non-residents pay modestly more (around $7 drop-in per person). A family season pass ($155 for MV residents) pays off quickly if you're going weekly in summer. Day passes are purchased on-site at the facility; no advance reservation is required for rec swim.

The park sits about 2 miles east of Shoreline at Mountain View (the park with the lake, kite-flying fields, and nature area), making a combined visit practical if you have the energy — pool first, then drive over to Shoreline for a walk around the lake or some kite time in the afternoon.

Bring a padlock, two towels per kid (one for mid-session warmup, one for leaving), rash guards for kids who burn easily, and food for post-swim hunger. There's grass and picnic tables in the park for lunch. Sunscreen is essential — Mountain View afternoons are full sun with minimal shade near the pool deck.

Planning

The Aquatics Center is open for recreation swim Memorial Day weekend through mid-October, with expanded weekday hours from mid-June through early August. Summer weekday rec swim: Monday–Thursday 2:30–5pm, select Fridays 5–7pm (themed night swims). Weekend rec swim: Saturday–Sunday 1:30–6:30pm throughout the summer season. Check mountainview.gov/aquatics for the exact current schedule, as hours adjust slightly by phase of summer. Admission: Mountain View residents ~$4/child, ~$5/adult, ~$11/family day pass; non-residents slightly higher. No advance reservations needed for rec swim. What to bring: padlock, towels, sunscreen, change of clothes for everyone, water and snacks (food allowed on the pool deck and in the grass areas). Best months are June through August when inland heat makes the pool essential. Kids ages 1–5 get the most from the zero-depth rec pool; older kids and adults will also want to use the water slide. The surrounding park playgrounds are free and open sunrise to sunset year-round.
